A Cypriot Bi-chrome ware stemmed cup, with short splayed foot and stem, cup shaped body with rounded bottom and nearly vertical, slightly outward bulging sides, and flat, outwardly turned rim. Much of the vessel’s surface is buff colored clay, with a band of umber between two bands of black decorating the foot and a wide band of umber above a narrow band of black decorating the vessel’s vertical sides. The flat rim is umber with a narrow band of black just inside the mouth, while the bottom interior is decorated with a single thick band of umber between a pair of double black bands. There is a minor chip to the foot, a thin layer of beige encrustation mostly on one side of the vessel obscuring some of the decoration and a pair of small holes 0.5 cm apart on one side just below the rim for hanging the vessel.

PROVENANCE: Formerly in the private English collection of Mr. Peter Negus, the collection formed between the 1920s and 2007 from various sources in the UK and abroad.
