Trail Decorated Late Roman Glass Pendant Bead

DATE: 4th - 5th Century AD
DIMENSIONS: 1.7 cm (0.67 in.) long
DESCRIPTION: A barrel shaped glass pendant bead of the Late Roman period, formed of very dark, possibly purple glass, appearing black, with a thick, circular loop for suspension at the top center, and decorated with a single continuous thread of yellow glass, making ten rotations around the bead. Minor chipping to one end and some wear to the yellow thread but otherwise intact and wearable.
PROVENANCE: Formerly in a Canadian private collection
